How We Help People

Smartphone photos have GPS. But photos taken by professional cameras often do not. Some people do not mind it, others would rather fix it and enjoy their photo memories with GPS tags on a map. This tool helps photographers tag photos with GPS coordinates from either a pin on a map or a copy-paste from another photo that happens to have GPS data. This tool is simple and free.

Thanks to this little viewer, I can now easily geotag all my photos. Such a handy tool for photography enthusiasts!

Paul Smith

I highly recommend this software for anyone who wants to preserve their memories with accurate GPS coordinates. It's super user-friendly!

Sara Perry

This viewer is pretty easy to use. I can pin missing GPS locations to the RAW files in the photo collection.

Is it free and open source?

Yes it is free but no it is not open source. We will be building commercial functionality into the application in the next two years and are only release the base version today.

Does it modify my photos?

Under the hood, the software modifies the Exif data using the freely available exiftool https://exiftool.org but not the image data. While exiftool is very reliable and has been around since 2003, there are still no guarantees! It is important to back up your photos before using this tool. It will not do it automatically for you!

Is my camera supported?

RAW images from multiple cameras are supported. As new camera formats are released, the software needs to be updated to support them. In order to display image data (only to display and not overwrite in any form), GPSetter relies on exiftool and libraw image processing. Both are frequently updated to ensure modern cameras are supported.
